Quick answer

Mapping is the part of a brow appointment that decides the result: three reference points — where the brow starts, where the arch peaks and where the tail ends — are measured against your own features before a single hair is removed. Wax only executes what the mapping decided.

Eyebrow Shape Mapping: How Your Brow Shape Is Chosen

People book brow appointments thinking about wax. What actually changes their face is the ten minutes before the wax, when the shape is measured and agreed. That step is called mapping, and it is worth understanding before you sit down.

The three points that set a brow

A brow shape is built from three reference points. The start is aligned with the inner corner of the eye, which is what keeps both brows reading as a pair rather than two separate decisions. The arch is placed by proportion — shifting it even slightly changes the expression of the whole eye area. The tail sets how lifted or how heavy the outer eye looks.

Everything else — thickness, gradient, how much of the lower line is cleaned — follows from those three.

Bring the photo you saved. We will map it against your own proportions and tell you what holds.

Working with asymmetry and over-plucked brows

Nearly every face is asymmetric, and mapping is how that is handled rather than hidden: the goal is two brows that read as a pair. If years of plucking have thinned a section, the shape is rebuilt around what still grows, and a tint makes the sparse part read fuller. Where the hair is gone for good, permanent makeup is the other answer — and we will say so instead of promising wax can do it.

You approve the shape, then the wax

At ANNAZUR the mapped shape is shown to you before any hair is removed. Changing your mind at that point costs nothing; changing it afterwards means waiting for regrowth. That is the whole reason we do it in this order.

Shaping then takes 10 to 20 minutes, and the optional tint another 20 to 30. Eyebrow Correction, Shape & Tint is $69 for first-time clients and members instead of $90.

What mapping actually decides.

  • The start: set from the inner corner of the eye, which is what keeps the two brows reading as a pair.
  • The arch: placed by proportion, not by trend — move it and the whole eye area changes expression.
  • The tail: length and angle set how lifted or heavy the outer eye looks.
  • Your say: you approve the mapped shape before the wax goes on. If you do not like it, it costs nothing to change at that point.

Brow mapping. Questions answered plainly.

Can I bring a photo of the brows I want?

Yes, and it helps — as a direction rather than a target. We will tell you honestly which parts of that shape your own hair and bone structure can carry.

What if my brows are not symmetrical?

Almost nobody’s are. Mapping works with the asymmetry you have: the aim is two brows that read as a pair, not two identical drawings.

Can mapping fix over-plucked brows?

It can rebuild the shape around what still grows, and a tint makes the sparse sections read fuller. Where hair no longer grows, permanent makeup is the other route.

Does mapping cost extra?

No. It is part of Eyebrow Correction, Shape & Tint — $69 for first-time clients and members, $90 otherwise.

How long does the appointment take?

Shaping takes 10 to 20 minutes and the tint 20 to 30, plus the mapping conversation at the start.
