License and insurance: the part of training nobody teaches

Quick answer

Understanding license requirements and a practitioner’s insurance is a subject in its own right inside the two-day sugaring course at ANNAZUR. Most technique training leaves it out, which is how people finish a course and discover they cannot legally start.

License and insurance: the part of training nobody teaches

You can be the best pair of hands in the city and still be unable to take a client, because the paperwork behind the service is a separate skill and almost nobody teaches it.

Two separate questions

They get confused constantly. A license is what the state says you may do. Insurance is what protects you when something goes wrong while you are doing it. Having one does not give you the other, and neither is implied by a certificate from any private course, ours included.

Why the license question is not simple

What you may legally perform depends on the service and on the credential you hold, and the boundaries are not where most people assume. In Florida, for example, permanent makeup is tattooing and sits with the health department rather than cosmetology — a surprise to anyone who assumed all beauty services run through one board.

Hair removal technique being taught at ANNAZUR Academy

Hair removal has its own answer, and it is worth getting from an authoritative source rather than from a forum. The course covers it, and we raise it at the consultation before anyone enrolls.

Unsure what you are allowed to perform? Ask before you enroll — the consultation is free.

Insurance is not optional in practice

Nobody plans for a reaction, a burn, or a client who slips getting off the table. Those happen to careful practitioners too, and a studio that rents you a room will usually ask what cover you carry before handing you a key.

Working out what cover a hair removal practitioner needs, and what questions an insurer will ask, is work you want to do before you are quoting a client — not afterwards.

Where sanitization meets liability

Disinfection and sanitization protocols are taught on the course as technique, but they are also the thing that makes an incident defensible. A practitioner who can describe their protocol and show that they followed it is in a very different position from one who cannot.

Sterile single-use tools and disposables laid out for a treatment

That is the real reason it is a separate subject rather than a paragraph.

What we can and cannot tell you

We can teach the technique, cover what the requirements are, and tell you where to verify them. We cannot issue a license — no private studio can — and we are not your insurance broker or your lawyer.

What we will do is make sure you leave knowing which questions to ask and who to ask them of. Confirm current requirements with the relevant Florida authority before you start taking clients.

Also in this series:

The short version.

  • Two things: a license is permission; insurance is protection. Neither implies the other.
  • Not from a forum: verify requirements with the authority, not with a Facebook group.
  • Before the first client: both questions want answering before you are quoting work.
  • Sanitization: protocol is technique and also what makes an incident defensible.
  • We do not issue licenses: no private studio can. We teach and point you to the right source.

License and insurance. Questions answered plainly.

Is licensing covered in the course?

Yes. Understanding licenses and a practitioner’s insurance requirements is one of the theory subjects.

Does a certificate let me work?

A certificate records training. Whether you may legally perform a service depends on your license, not on any private certificate.

Does ANNAZUR issue a license?

No. No private studio in Florida can.

Why does insurance come up in a technique course?

Because a studio will ask what cover you carry, and because incidents happen to careful practitioners too.

Where should I verify the requirements?

With the relevant Florida authority for the service you intend to perform. We will tell you which one at the consultation.

Can you advise on which insurer to use?

No. We are not brokers. We can tell you what questions an insurer will ask you.
