Do you need a license for eyelash extensions in Florida?

Quick answer

Florida does not issue a separate eyelash extension license — applying extensions for pay sits under a cosmetology or facial specialist credential from the Board of Cosmetology. ANNAZUR Academy in Jacksonville teaches the technique; the credential comes from the state.

Do you need a license for eyelash extensions in Florida?

Two packages, and people routinely choose the wrong one. Beginners reach for advanced because it sounds better; working artists book standard because it is shorter. Both end up paying twice.

The standard package, in plain terms

One day, eight hours, and the subject is the classic lash technique: one extension to one natural lash, the method that creates a natural, finished look and that every other style is built on.

You practice on mannequins to refine the mechanics and on a real model to learn what mechanics alone cannot teach. It is designed for people starting from nothing, and nothing in it assumes prior experience.

The advanced package

Two days, sixteen hours, covering classic and hybrid. Hybrid blends classic and volume work to give a fuller, more dramatic result, which widens the range of clients you can say yes to.

Close-up of an eye with subtle, natural-looking classic lash extensions.

It is aimed at people who already have a basic understanding of lash extensions — someone who has worked with classic sets and wants a second style, rather than someone meeting a pair of tweezers for the first time.

Choosing honestly

If you have never applied a lash extension, take the standard package. Learning two styles before you can isolate reliably means learning neither well, and isolation is the skill everything else rests on.

If you already work with classic sets and keep turning away clients who want something fuller, the advanced package is the one that changes your diary.

Why mannequins come first

A mannequin does not blink, does not have a watering eye and does not need reassurance. That lets you build hand position, tweezer control and isolation without a person attached to the outcome.

It also lets you repeat the same movement until it is automatic, which is not possible on a live model where every lash is one attempt.

And why they are not enough

Real eyes water, flutter and are set differently from one another. Clients talk, fall asleep, open their eyes at the wrong moment. Lash lines are uneven, and natural lashes vary in thickness and strength along the same lid.

Lash extensions applied to a live model during training

Both packages include model practice for that reason, with feedback from the instructor while you work rather than afterwards.

What the certificate is and is not

It records that you completed the training and can be shown to clients and employers. It is not a license. What you may legally perform on a paying client in Florida depends on your license, so confirm your scope with the Florida Board of Cosmetology before you book clients.

We will tell you honestly where you stand at the consultation. Package details are on the course page.

Also in this series:

The short version.

  • Standard: one day, eight hours, classic technique, for beginners.
  • Advanced: two days, sixteen hours, classic plus hybrid, for people with basics.
  • Isolation first: learn one style properly before adding a second.
  • Mannequin then model: mechanics first, then everything mechanics cannot teach.
  • Certificate, not license: confirm your scope with the Board before taking clients.

Lash training. Questions answered plainly.

Do I need prior experience?

Not for the standard package. The advanced one assumes you already understand the basics.

How long is each package?

Standard is one day, eight hours. Advanced is two days, sixteen hours.

Will I practice on a real model?

Yes, in both packages, alongside mannequin practice.

What is hybrid?

A blend of classic and volume techniques for a fuller, more dramatic result.

Which should a beginner choose?

Standard. Two styles at once before you can isolate reliably teaches neither well.

Does the certificate let me work?

It records your training. Your license decides what you may legally perform — check with the Board.
